There are 2 main classifications for body contouring treatments. Surgical body contouring and non-surgical body contouring. These procedures act in the same way, by reducing or removing stubborn fat specifically to contour and shape different areas of the body.
As the name suggests, surgical body contouring requires surgery. This can be extremely invasive and requires lots of down time, scarring as well as risks.
Another downside to surgery is the cost. Whilst there is a variable difference between cost per area in the Sydney region, standard costs as of 2019 are between $2500-$8000 per area, not including anaesthetic fees.
This form of body contouring has been around for many years. However, with new, advanced technologies becoming available, and with proven successes, non-surgical body contouring treatments have become extremely popular.
Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing) – or controlled cooling.
CoolSculpting was the fat freezing technology introduced and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since then, competitors have jumped on board, offering the same process of killing fat cells, as effective, but typically more affordable.
How Cryolipolysis Works
Fat cells die from 4degrees. This process uses applicators which are placed on desired areas of the body, using freezing temperatures to target and destroy fat cells. Surrounding tissues are not harmed. The destroyed fat cells are eventually flushed out of your body through the lymphatic system, which is our body’s natural way of eliminating toxins.
Results are permanent. This is not an uncomfortable treatment.
- Love handles
- Bra and back fat
- Under buttocks (banana roll)
- Double chin
Treatment Time: 30-60 minutes
Uses controlled heating and laser energy to target fat cells. As with any laser treatments, this can often be uncomfortable.
Cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. The ultrasound produces a strong wave of pressure to fat cell membranes. A fat cell is unable to withstand this pressure and therefore disintegrates into a liquid state. Not uncomfortable.
Uses injectable deoxycholic acid to target fat cells.
Body HIFU (High Intensity Ultrasound):
Uses high frequency to heat under the skin to destroy fat cells permanently. The downside to HIFU is price, considering that many need more than one treatment per area, the overall cost can exceed surgical liposuction.
Benefits of Non-Surgical Body Contouring
Convenience – as there is no anaesthetic involved, clients can be treated within their lunch break.
Affordable – particularly in the case of cryolipolysis and cavitation, treatments are more achievable to all.
Safe – at Skulpt Face & Body, from past clients, the worst typical side effects have been slight bruising, redness and numbness (from the freezing temperature of cryolipolysis).
